Moving and being moved

We live in what seems to be an ever decreasing world. Airports and their surroundings look more and more alike. At the same time, differences close to home seem to get bigger. Talking to a neighbour may feel as if you are speaking to someone from another part of the world. Which may be the case…

Borders between countries are becoming blurred, as are the borders between organisations, teams and professions. As an individual, we can take nothing for granted. The possibilities for giving substance to your life or work seem endless and adjustable at any time. The wide range of perspectives in the external world is reflected in the internal world, in which the individual unites many, sometimes even conflicting, roles.

Our society is also described as a VUCA world: Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous. In this moving world, individuals, organisations and societies feel the need for security. For example: the trend to standardise in organisations, the consolidation of the current dominant neoliberal culture, the strengthening of external borders, the call for preservation of identity at different levels and the expression or suppression of strong emotions.

During the Summer University, we explore the implications of the field of tension between security and mobility for coaching and supervision on an individual, team and organisational level.
